When I was 16, my friend’s mother sat me down one day and I will never forget what she said to me “Nicki, you need to always take care of yourself FIRST before anyone else in the family. If you are not healthy or happy, how can you expect to help others”.
When you are on an airplane, they say to put your oxygen mask on FIRST before trying to help your child. That child may not be able to help you if you are passed out.
These core principles also apply to running your business. How can YOU be at the top of your game when running your business?
The sales person may say we have this wonderful opportunity to offer this service. Operations will then say, well, we will need more staff and new equipment and the systems guy will say he needs a new server to handle the new load. And then the finance person will need to figure out where the money is coming from to fund this new venture and the President has to make sure we can make this opportunity profitable! They joys of a product launch!
The challenges with a start-up company and the life of a solopreneur is you are it – just me, myself and I. But it doesn’t need to be that way.
How do you grow your team when you are still not bringing in a lot of money but you are drowning in work? If you continue to drown in work, your customer service will suffer and you will not have time to get more clients. Vicious cycle – you need more work to pay for a person, but you need the person so you can get more work.
