So what do you do when you don’t know the answer?
When I went to University, the most important thing I learned was how to learn and how to get the correct information. We are not perfect and not expected to know everything. As long as you know where to get the answer, your customers will be happy. People are more concerned with getting the right information than to get the answer right away.
I do have a word of caution about the internet. Anyone can post things on Wikipedia or blog. If it doesn’t feel right to you, then you should not hesitate to validate the information with another independent source – either on the internet or in a publication.
The most important part of this exercise is to make sure you reply back to your customers in a timely manner. It not only shows that you are trustworthy, but it gives you another reason to call them back. The more times you connect with your customer, the more they will remember you and the more you increase your chances of them doing business with you. Being super-efficient doesn’t always get you ahead.
